“Being an only child from a single parent family in an area of Glasgow known for its poverty, I have always had a part time job, from a paper round in school to my current employment in a fast-food chain. Since my early teens, I have always contributed to the household and tried not to burden my Mum with further financial pressures than she already contends with. That is why the scholarship is so important to me. Having the reassurance and peace of mind that this scholarship brings spurs me on and supports me to be the first person in my family to call themselves a university graduate.
This scholarship has has allowed me to strike a balance by reducing my work hours, giving me the time to focus more on my studies. This freedom has been instrumental in dedicating extra hours to revising, working on assignments, and completing coursework. Beyond the financial relief, the scholarship has proven to be a gateway to invaluable connections within the industry. Little did I know that along with easing my financial burden, this support would provide me with the opportunity to connect with industry experts. I am genuinely grateful for the support, opportunities, and experiences it has brought into my life, and I am eager to make the most of this generous opportunity I have been granted.”

“I originally planned to study Law but was so impressed by the commitment of the Risk Management University teaching staff at Glasgow Caledonian when I met them at an open day. I got an A at Higher Maths and wanted to make the most of my ability to handle numbers and figures. I could see that Risk Management would be a great career path to pursue. Entering university I knew I wanted to reach my full potential but I was worried about having the funds to support my education and even to have money to support my travel into university each day as I live in Ayrshire.
The London Insurance Market Charitable Trust Scholarship has made a huge difference to me in my first year at university by taking away any financial burdens from university and I am able to focus fully on my studies. It will continue to help me even after I have finished my degree due to the industry connections that it will allow me to have within the insurance industry that I would not have had before. This will support and encourage me to help me to achieve my university and career goals and has given me more motivation and confidence to achieve more things that interest me.”
